Monday 4 the Missing ~ Christina Calayca

What started out as a camping trip for a small group of friends, ended in a mother's worst nightmare!
20-year-old Christina Calayca was camping at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park near Thunder Bay with her cousin and two young men.
In the early morning hours of August 6, 2007, Christina went jogging with one of the male friends in her group. The 2 parted ways somewhere along the trail in Rainbow Falls Provincial Park ... Christina never came back.

The provincial park is located on Highway 17 between Screiber, Ontario and Rossport, Ontario. This section of Highway 17 is the Trans-Canada Highway that connects Thunder Bay, Ontario and Sault St. Marie, Ontario.

The first thing I noticed upon visiting Christina's Site is her amazing smile! My mind reels in aggitation as it revolves around one thought ...

What Happened to Christina Calayca???

About 100 civilians were permitted to search through the less treacherous parts of the bush this weekend. The OPP had previously discouraged civilians from combing the park as the terrain is dangerous and the bush is dense. Police have ruled out a black bear attack, noting that while there have been some bear sightings this summer at Rainbow Falls, there have been no reports about aggressive bruins in the park adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway. Nor do police suspect foul play on the part of Calayca‘s travelling companions, three other members of a Catholic youth group.

Brainwashed by My Parents (Dr. Phil)

Friday - October 3, 2008 on Dr. Phil
"Brainwashed by My Parents"
It’s being called the ultimate form of child abuse -- brainwashing your children against an ex-spouse to win custody. Could you be harming your child emotionally and not even know it? First up, Ken is a successful surgeon who says he’s the victim of parental alienation syndrome (PAS). He says he hasn’t seen his 14-year-old son since last October and claims his ex-wife destroyed what was once a loving father-son relationship. Mel Feit, director of the National Center for Men, says Ken’s situation is a classic case of kids being turned against their father, but family law attorney Liz Kates says PAS is a phony tactic used by some men to get out of paying child support. What does Dr. Phil think? Then, Karen lost custody of her children after she was accused of parental alienation syndrome by her ex-husband. Karen maintains her innocence, so why were her parental rights terminated when her daughters accused her ex of sexual abuse? Plus, 19-year-old Demi joins the show via Web cam and says her father verbally abused her mother during their divorce. Now, she fears that her 15-year-old sister is caught in the middle. Find out what you can do if you’re caught between sparring parents. And, meet a father so desperate to see his young children, he kidnapped them from his ex-wife and went on the lam for two years.

"Do you think he might read this in prison?" Daisy asks. "If he's reading this, I want to say something that will catch his attention."
After 35 days, what could catch his attention?
She pauses, searching.
Finally, she settles on this: "You wanted to hurt me, and you did. It's killing me inside. But it's Giovanni's future, and he needs to show up soon. If you know where he is or if somebody has him, just put him somewhere public - a hospital, a post office, a police station, a mall - anywhere that he can say his name and where he lives."

A public defender asked in Salem Superior Court Friday for a reduction in bail to $14,000, arguing that the state has no probable cause to believe that Gonzalez put his son in any danger. But a prosecutor argued that Gonzalez would be a flight risk if released.
Judge Howard Whitehead declined to lower the $500,000 bail.

Test results are back from blood found in the Lynn home of a missing boy’s father, and the district attorney says he’s “optimistic” the child is still alive.
Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett will not disclose the blood test results because of the ongoing investigation, his spokesman Steve O’Connell said. But, Blodgett is hopeful that 5-year-old Giovanni Gonzalez is still alive.

While investigators have gone to Puerto Rico to speak with family members of Giovanni's father, Ernesto Gonzalez, 36, O'Toole said the Puerto Rico angle has not turned up much information."We have not been able to verify any information that Giovanni has been taken or went to Puerto Rico," he said.

John Hicks Missing~Oakridge, OR.

John Hicks has been Missing since Sept. 7.
At age 47, John left with only his cell phone. It's what he didn't take with him that raises concern.
His trailer, possesions, and beloved dog, Bear, were left behind.

That's why everyone from the Oakridge Police Chief to Hicks' sister says something isn't right.
"That's how I knew," said Debra Brunken. "When I talked to the landlord and I said, the dog's gone? And he said, no he's here. And I said oh God, I'll be up as fast as I can come."
So Brunken came to Oakridge, where Hicks has lived for the past two years. The part time handyman has the mentality of a 12-year-old, according to Brunken. He's a creature of habit, who calls her every day. Read More:

Missing Adults Get Too Much Exposure! (Janine Todt)

Yup, you read the title right! There is entirely too much exposure for missing adults!

I will give you an example of this annoying over exposure.
Just today, I was trying to find out more information on Janine M. Todt, a woman who has been missing from Richmond Township Pa, since August 10th, 2008. The article hogged up so much space, I almost missed a story about seven tomato plants and ten corn stalks being damaged. The audacity!
I'll highlight the garden story, so you can locate it easily.

Aug. 3: a trespassing incident at the Kutztown Produce Association is being investigated. Several males were found on the property after hours.
Aug. 5: a 27-year old male was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after a crash on Fleetwood Ave. and E. Arch St. The driver was flown to the hospital for his injuries.

Aug. 8: Criminal Mischief was reported several times on a vehicle parked in the 00 block of Brookfield Dr.
Aug. 10: Police are investigating a reported missing person from the 200 block of Moselem Church Rd. The 24-year old female was last seen around midnight on Saturday, Aug. 10. Her name is Janine M. Todt, a white female. Todt is described as standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing about 150 pounds. She is believed to have a medical condition and to be on some medication which is making her confused.
Anyone with information is asked to call Fleetwood Police Dept. at 610-944-7011.
Pennsylvania State Police
Crops damaged
State Police at Hamburg are investigating damage done to a Greenwich Township woman's garden.
Christa Pettit, 38, told police someone destroyed some crops at her Eagle St. garden between Aug. 5 and 6.
Pettit said seven tomato plants and ten corn stalks were damaged.
Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 610-562-6885.
Toilet stolen
Someone stole a portable toilet that was parked at a Greenwich Twp. church sometime around Aug. 4.

Of course I realize that this is only the rundown of a police report on Berks Mont News , and there is a lot of news to cover.

I proceeded to National Center for Missing Adults. Would you believe that the picture of Janine Todt was so prominent that I hardly noticed a profile for Ricarda Tillman-Locket?
Ricarda is Janine's neighbor to the left. Janine's right side neighbor was also nearly invisible. Luckily, the hat Charles Lee Toliver was wearing caught my attention.

Determined to prove my point of over exposure on missing persons, I googled Janine Todt's name. There were a handful of sites such as Scared Monkeys and Project Jason that covered the disappearance of Janine.
(sarcasm aside, THANK YOU to the people who did cover Janine's story!)
Fleetwood police and fire personnel said Monday that they are scaling back the search for a 42-year-old Richmond Township woman who has been missing since late Saturday.
Janine M. Todt, 42, was last seen by her husband Saturday about 11:30 p.m. in their home in the 200 block of Moselem Church Road. Police and crews with dogs and horses searched the area around the house for two consecutive days but found no trace of her.
Fleetwood police, who patrol Richmond Township, said they plan no further ground searches unless they receive new information.
They said they are following up leads regarding her disappearance.
Police have said Janine Todt suffers from a sleeping disorder for which she takes medication. She often would walk near her residence late at night and may have become disoriented.
Todt is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 135 to 145 pounds and has short dark hair.
Anyone with information should call Fleetwood police at 610-944-7100.
Updated photo of missing Richmond Township woman released
If the links of news reports and missing persons sites listed above haven't convinced you that Missing Persons are getting too much media exposure, I'm clicking on over to Philadelphia Police Department
Skimming the front page...no..nope...crime maps...curfew violations..nooo..blah blahblah...operation town watch...nope, I don't see missing persons on the front page. Oh wait! Ohhh, I see. That's amber alert and Megans Law...
nevermind ... missing persons aren't listed on the front page. I bet it's because Janine Todt will have an entire page dedicated to her once I click on that there search button!
It's a wonder the police are able to keep up with all the tips that must be coming in on Janine's case! This one 24 year old missing woman basically uses up the entire internet!
I wonder why the search was called off after 2 days, considering Janine Todt suffers from a sleeping disorder for which she takes medication. Especially since it is thought that she may have become disoriented.

He wishes he knew more to counter those accusations, but he can't remember anything.

(Also, thank you Websleuths for the banner of Benjaman Kyle...it will be on Myspace by the end of the day!)

The plan for the NamUs system was to cross reference the missing and the unidentified deceased. A Living Doe was a unique scenario that would require a bit of planning. But never fear…we do intend to include any current or future Living Doe into the NamUs system. I have to wonder if that will be the magic bullet for the Kyle case?

Giovanni Gonzalez: Update

Police have always been looking into the fact there may have been an accomplice in the alleged kidnapping, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said.

Gonzalez has refused to cooperate with police and will not say what happened to Giovanni. He is being held on $500,000 cash bail on charges of child endangerment.

Gonzalez did not have a car, so police are now hoping buses and public transportation will offer clues into the little boy's disappearance.

What Does Sneha Pierce Look Like Now?

This little girl is just cute as a button! Too bad her dad probably don't know what she looks like! So far, this is the only picture of Sneha Pierce that I can find, and it's quite outdated...since it is suspected that her non-custodial mother abducted her over 10 years ago!

A New Billboard for Carol Dowless, Missing Since 05

UPDATE
There has been a major break in the murder case of a Columbus County woman. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a man with first-degree murder is in the case of Carol Batten Dowless.

The man in custody is the victim's husband, Jamie Lee Dowless. The charges follow Monday's positive identification of her remains. The remains were found within weeks of putting up a billboard with her picture.

On September 5th, 2005, Carol Marie Dowless disappeared. Her family says they saw her the evening of the 4th, but by morning she was gone. All that was found was her car in a pasture in Columbus County.

To help find Carol Marie Dowless, the Cue Center for Missing Persons has spent the last four months raising money to hang up a billboard with Carol's picture on it."

Identities confirmed for 2 sets of skeletal remains- NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)
Two missing person's cases are solved. Bones that were found in April in a wooded area off Carolina Beach Road have been identified.

Though family members have closure, they still have unanswered questions.

Lisa Valentino, Allison Jackson Foy's sister, wants to know how Foy died. She had been missing for about two years, and her bones were one of the two sets found in the same area off Carolina Beach Road.

The other set of bones were identified in August as those of 42-year-old Angela Rothen who disappeared in 2007. A recent autopsy report shows she died from a cut throat.

Monica Caison [CUE Center] has been helping both families throughout the years solve their missing person's cases.
Caison helps families cope with the difficult process of finding a loved one.

Mary Badaracco missing 24 years-New Search Using Electromagnetic Imaging Device

By Dirk Perrefort
STAFF WRITER
Article Last Updated: 09/09/2008 06:52:57 AM EDT

NEW FAIRFIELD -- The investigation of a woman's disappearance 24 years ago -- now considered a homicide -- picked up steam Monday as police used ground-penetrating radar to search a property near Ball Pond.
Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, confirmed that investigators were executing a search warrant at a home on Sunswept Drive in connection to the Mary Badaracco case.

Ground-penetrating radar, according to State Archaeologist Nick Bellantoni, can find a variety of features underneath the surface. Bellantoni has assisted state and local police in past investigations that involved use of the technology.

He said the sled-like device, which is pulled along the ground, uses short wave radio signals to locate solid objects under the surface, including metal pipes and coffins, as well as soil anomalies, such as a hole previously dug and filled in.

"For example, if there are only skeletal remains, it wouldn't pick up the body, but it will record the disturbance or the burial feature," he said. "Basically, what it does is say there is something under the surface that is an anomaly. To find out what that anomaly is would require further excavations."

He added that investigators using ground-penetrating radar often use flags to determine the grid of the search area. They may also be used if anomalies are found that warrant further investigation.

Vance said the owners of the home on Sunswept Drive have been extremely cooperative with investigators.

Stephen Logan, who owns the home, declined to comment Monday.

Vance urged anyone with information in the case to call state police at (203) 267-2200.

What Is CODIS?

AFIS
NCIC
CODIS
BOLO
DNA

HUH??? Say WHAT?

All Law Officials Should Know AFIS, NCIC, CODIS, BOLO, and DNA.

~Educate Yourself Here~

What IS CODIS?

CODIS is a computer software program that Operates on Local, State, and National Databases of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons.

How Does CODIS Work?

CODIS uses 2 indexes to generate leads in crimes

1)The Convicted Offender Index contains DNA profiles of individuals convicted of certian crimes.

2)The Forensic Index contains DNA evidence obtained from crime scene evidence.

Please go to Local FBI Listings for more information on requesting packets.

(The packets must be requested from an approved CODIS lab or department) The packets will be mailed to law officers closest to the family who is reporting a missing loved one.

Law officials will be given a date of entry from CODIS. Once the missing person's DNA is in CODIS it will be compared with all current entries. CODIS will also later compare any human remains found in the future.

All missing persons should be submitted into CODIS.
A standard list of data entry for cases of the missing is as follows:

♦ AFIS
♦ NCIC
♦ CODIS
♦ Dental Records
♦ Good Current Photo
♦ Send county/state BOLO out concerning missing person
♦ Contact your state clearinghouse and report missing person

Listing of State Clearinghouses

(includes adress/phone number/mail/email for each state)

This is a free service to law officials across the country and assures good information to be obtained nationwide in the identification process of unidentified and or missing persons. The following links will help you in your search for good information.

Why Monday4 The Missing?

This blog is designed to feature a missing person's case each and every Monday that has not been given adequate attention by the media or law enforcement agencies. The statistics show almost a million people in our country are reported missing each year and only a handful of those cases are considered newsworthy.

We believe that all missing persons are important. They are someone's loved one and the devastation it causes in the lives of those families that are left behind is staggering.

We are now in the planning and working stages of this project. Our plan is to contact as many bloggers as we can that would be willing to devote their Monday entries to a particular missing person. We will contact you and let you know which case will be featured, some background information on each case and links to where you can read anything that we can find on the missing person.

Featuring Missing Persons. Each Monday a different missing person will be featured on a number of blogs. If you would like to make a commitment to give a missing person exposure on your blog, please contact us here.

Chioma Gray

I spoke with Chioma's mom yesterday... She told me that she hasn't received any word, NOTHING, from the FBI since February. She told me that the Ventura Police Department has already stopped looking. There were leads in the case that Chioma may have been spotted in Mexico, but they were never followed up on, reports of various sightings, and she still has no information and no real assistance.

Caylee Anthony ~ Giovanni Gonzalez
Similar Story, but Different Media Exposure

Everyone knows about missing 3 year old Caylee Anthony, Everyone knows about her story, her crazy mother, a car smelling of dead bodies, chloroform, and the family that refuses to help detectives, It is the latest spotlight story for the media, Turn on Nancy Grace on any given night and Caylee's story will be on, Look anywhere on MySpace and you will find 50 new pages dedicated to Caylee

5 year old Giovanni Gonzalez is also missing, but no one has heard of him, No one knows about his story, his father that refuses to talk or even acknowledge that his son was with him, or the bloody mop that was found

Both storys have uncanny similarities
Caylee is missing and her mother refuses to talk : Giovanni is missing and his father refuses to talk
Caylee's mother's car smelled of dead bodies and chloroform was found : Giovanni's father's house had a bloody mop and he had a cut on his hand that he won't explain
Caylee's mother was in jail on bond : Giovanni's father is still in jail on bond

So what's the major difference in this story? The media is eating up Caylee's story without even mentioning Giovanni, Why? Don't ALL missing children deserve media attention? Don't they all deserve the same chance at being found?

You can use your own judgment on why the media isn't talking about Giovanni, I am not going to get into that, But PLEASE, do Giovanni a favor, and help his information be seen, Please don't misunderstand, I am NOT complaining that Caylee is getting attention, I just believe that ALL missing children should have that chance, So while you are posting for Caylee (don't stop!) remember Giovanni as well.

Join me! Help find these and other missing kids!

The anxious mother of a missing 5-year-old boy - last seen with his father - urged her son yesterday to call 911, so he could be found and returned to their East Boston home

Daisy Colon spoke to reporters as she left Lynn police headquarters, where she had spent the day waiting for the result of the intense search for Giovanni Gonzalez, who was last in the care of his father, Ernesto L.
Gonzalez Jr at the father's home, a few blocks north of Lynn City Hall

"Giovanni, I miss you a lot, honey, " Colon, 33, said, She urged her son to call police, "Don't be afraid to ask for help, OK, honey?"

In Spanish, she told her son: "I love you, Be strong, Because soon we are going to be together again"

Late yesterday police released a photograph of Gonzalez holding his son, in hopes of sparking someone's memory and generating new leads amid concerns about the child's well-being, They also distributed missing person fliers in English and Spanish in the North Shore city

Under an informal custody agreement, Colon had allowed her son to spend weekends with his father and had dropped him off Friday evening, expecting to pick up the boy Sunday afternoon about 4, according to court records

But when Colon arrived at Gonzalez's home on Brightwood Terrace on Sunday, her knocks went unanswered and her son was nowhere to be found, She summoned police, who eventually broke in and found Gonzalez inside, He denied seeing the boy the entire weekend

Gonzalez, 36, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, He has been held on $500,000 cash bail since his arraignment Monday in Lynn District Court

Jack Dawley, first assistant district attorney for Essex County, said yesterday that State Police and Lynn police are re-interviewing neighbors, scouring the immediate area around Gonzalez's residence for the boy, and searching for people who may have spotted the pair over the weekend

He also said they are checking with restaurants and stores near the father's residence in hopes an employee might have spotted the boy, They are also checking whether the father and son were recorded on a surveillance camera

Colon told police she had dropped off Giovanni at Gonzalez's apartment the two prior weekends and had the child returned to her without difficulty, On Friday, when she and Gonzalez discussed weekend plans, Colon told police she warned Gonzalez to keep his word

"She told him if he messes this up that she would make sure he would not be able to see him again," police said in the report

A hearing on visitation was scheduled for Sept 15 in Suffolk Probate and Family Court, a move sought by Gonzalez, who was ordered to pay $125 a week in child support in 2006, records show

Gonzalez denied talking with Colon on Friday, but her cellphone showed they had a 19-minute conversation, police said

Two of Gonzalez's neighbors told police they saw him with a young boy Saturday about 1 pm, The child was happily playing with a ball while his father stood nearby

The neighbor said "the boy kicked the ball down the side of Brightwood Terrace, and Gonzalez cursed the boy in Spanish," police said in a report

Anderson Children Missing since 2004
The children are missing from Lynnwood, Washington. They may be in the company of their non-custodial mother. Gisselle has a mole on her left earlobe and her ears are pierced. They may use the alias last name San Miguel. Their father has applied for the return of the children to the United States under the international civil treaty: The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Do not pick up based on this information.

I see a lot of that last sentence 'Do not pick up based on this information.'
My question is WHY?
Had these children been abducted by a stranger, there would be angry mobs crying for justice on forums everywhere.
